File Formats and Lossy vs. Lossless

Raw file vs. Jpeg
Advantages of a raw file
- higher in dynamic range
- get clean images
- potential for better detail
Disadvantages of a raw file
- not as sharp
Advantages of a Jpeg
- higher in contrast
- sharper
- immediately suitable for printing, sharing, and uploading on the web
Disadvantages of a Jpeg
- some color is lost

Why photographers would shoot using RAW file format
1. A raw file retains all of the data after the image is captured
2. A raw file enables a photographer to edit balance, contrast, highlights, shadows, colors, and saturation
3. Factors photographers should consider when shooting in raw are not ever digital camera has the option to shoot in raw, raw files are significantly larger than jpeg files, you can turn a raw file into a jpeg file, but not the other way around, and raw files take up more data
4. An aspiring photographer should know how to work with raw files because most photographers spend more time editing than taking actual pictures, so they should know how to function the editing programs

1. I have used both file formats in the past
2. the difference between a raster and a vector file is that a raster file is that a raster file is a lossy compression method usually stored in JFIF and a vector file is a geometric description that at one point has to be mastered to be viewed
